Sox Open 2007 With Victory!

The NY/NJ White Sox started the 2007 season the same way they finished the 2006 season, with a victory! The Sox defeated the Marauders 5-4 in an extremely cold and sloppy game. David Jiminian got the opening day start (4-0 on opening day) and continued his dominance over the Marauders. Jiminian pitched 7 innings, allowing only 4 hits, no earned runs, walked 1, and struck out 8. Anthony Simone came into finish off the Marauders for his first save of the season (2IP, 5H, 2R, 1ER, 0BB, 1K).

On the offensive side, Richie Aleman got the Sox going and paced the offense picking up 2 hits and drove in 3 runs. In the 1st inning, Aleman doubled in 2 runs to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. The Marauders would have their chances. In the 4th, with the game tied at 2, the Marauders loaded the bases with 0 outs. But Jiminian got Cruz to pop out, retired Giannella to ground out into a fielders choice, and struck out Sheppard to get out of the jam. Gottlob helped the Sox take a 3-2 lead in the 5th when he led off with a Single, went to 3rd on an error, and scored on a wild pitch. The Sox would extend the lead to 4-2 when Upchurch walked, Barnett reached on an error, and Aleman singled in another run. Leyer then would ground into a double play scoring the 5th run. The Marauders then cut the Sox lead to 5-4 in the 8th, but with runners on the corners and 2 outs, Vega was picked off at 1st by Simone. A runner would be stranded on 3rd in the 9th as Simone closed the game...

NOTE: David Jiminian improves his lifetime stats vs. the Marauders to 9-0 with an ERA of 0.50 (4 earned runs). Jiminian has 92 strike outs in 71.1 innings against the Mob.

The Sox will now wait to see who they will be playing on Sunday April 15th...
