Sox Advance to the Finals!!!

The NY/NJ White Sox advance to the Lou Gehrig Championships with an 8-5 victory over the Parsippany Brewers in 10 innings. The Sox swept the 2 game series and await the winner of the Saddle River/Ridgefield Park series...

Dave Wasserman got the start and pitched an outstanding game before running out of gas in the 9th inning. Wass pitched into the 9th (8+IP, 10H, 3ER, 2BB, 12K) allowing back to back singles before being replaced by Randy Shupe. The Sox were ahead 5-2, but the lead would not stand. After the back to back singles, a HBP, Error, Walk, and 2 Wild Pitches gave the Brewers 3 runs to tie the game. With 1 out and the winning run on 3rd, Vallela was walked intentionally and Kolding grounded into the 1-6-3 double play to end the inning. The Sox would then score 3 runs in the 10th inning to win the game...

The Sox jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd on a 2 Run Home Run by Jim Killian. With the score 2-1 in the 5th, Killian hit his 2nd Home Run of the game giving the Sox a 3-1 lead. The Brewer would again cut the lead to 1 before Upchurch hit an RBI Double in the 6th. Killian would drive in his 4th run of the game with a fielders choice in the 9th giving the Sox a 5-2 lead. After the Brewers tied the game in the bottom of the 9th, the Soxwould not back down and kept the bats going in the 10th. Colon led off with a Single and stole 2nd. Wasserman, trying to Sacrifice, laid down a perfect bunt for a single putting runners on 1st and 3rd. After Wass stole 2nd, Colon scored on a wild pitch.Mercado then hit into a fielders choice (advanced to 2nd on the run down). Reissner then singled, and Joe Alvarez hit a 2 Run Double giving the Sox an 8-5 lead.

This was another complete team victory as the Sox used 15 players in the game, with 14 players reaching base at least once. The Sox will now host the Saddle River Yankees in a rematch of the 2003 Championship series in the Best of 3 Championship Series on Sunday August 20th. The Game will be played at Larry Doby at 7:00pm.
