NY/NJ WHITE SOX WIN PRE-SEASON OPENER OVER PHILLIES!!!
Explode for 7 runs with 2 outs in 4th to overcome 5-0 deficit.

The NY/NJ Sox started their pre-season schedule with an impressive come from behind vicotory over the North Jersey Phillies.  On a bitter cold day, defensive miscues helped both teams.  In the 2nd inning, the Sox would commit 2 of their 4 errors, to go along with a walk and 3 hits gave the Phillies a 5-0 lead.  But the Sox would settle down and play their game.  With 2 outs in the 4th inning, Gary Gottlob singled to center field.  That would open up the flood gates.  3 hits, a walk, and 2 errors later, the Sox pushed across 7 runs to take a 7-5 lead.  Another run would cross the plate without the benefit of a hit in the 6th to give the Sox the victory 8-5.

Pitching was once again the key to the Sox victory.  3 relievers (Andrew Palmieri, Jose Arroyo, and Anthony Simone) combined for 5 shut out innings.  Palmierie gave up only 1 hit and walked 2 in his 2 innings, while Arroyo picked up the win with 2 innings of 2 hit ball himself.  Anthony Simone making his first appearance in 2 years pitched a scoreless 7th, striking out 2 to pick up the save.

Offensive Highlights:  Anthony Simone 1 for 2 (RBI Single, R), Dave Wasserman 1 for 3 (RBI Single, R, SB), Andrew Palmieri 1 for 2 (Single, R), Gary Gottlob 1 for 3 (Single, R), Joey Capogna 1 for 3 (Double), Adam Light 1 for 3 (Single, R), Jason Leyner and Mike Renda 1 for 3 each (Single).

NO REWARD!  While the Sox hit the ball hard and had most of the balls die down due to the wind, Joey Capogna suffered the most.  While Rich Aielman of the Phillies had the longest shot of the day, Capogna hit the ball hard all 3 times at bat only to have the wind keep the 3 shots in the park.  Hit the weight room Joey!  lol

Next up for the Sox:  Their final Pre-Season tune up will be on Sunday March 26th at 12:30pm against the Englewood Marauders at Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood.  Players should report at 11:30am...
