CHAMPIONS!!!

The NY/NJ White Sox defeated the Saddle River Yankees 2 games to none to win the 2006 Lou Gehrig Spring Championship... After winning Game 1 by the score of 5-3, the Sox would find closing out the Series was a lot easier said than done. The Yankees fought back from a 3-0 hole to tie the game, then found back again from a 7-3 hole to tie the game. In the 9th, the Sox would take a 9-7 lead before the Yankees came to bat in the bottom of the 9th. A run would cross the plate to make the score 9-8 but the Yankees stranded the tying run on 2nd base to end the game.

Ace David Jiminian got the start for the Sox with a chance to bring home another Championship for the Sox. Jiminian pitched 7.1 innings, 6 of them outstanding, but it was the other 1.1 that got him in trouble. David gave up only 6 hits, but walked 6, and allowed 4 earned runs on the night. In his 6 great innings, Jiminian allowed only 1 hit and 3 walks, while striking out 5... Anthony Simone came into the game in the 8th inning to stop the bleeding. Simone pitched 1.2 innings, allowing only 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 earned run, while striking out 2 to pick up the victory.

On Offense, the Sox came out in full force. Championship MVP Candidates Danny Mercado, Joe Alvarez, and Jimmy Killian all put upHUGE numbers in the Finals. Mercado collected another 3 hits, and drove in 2 more runs (giving him 4 hits and 4 RBI in the series - 0.571 batting average). Alvarez also collected 3 hits, drove in a run, and scored a run (also hitting 0.571 in the series). Killian went 2 for 4 with a single, double, 2 runs scored, RBI, and stolen base (Killian hit 0.500 in the series with 3RBI). Dave Wasserman went 2 for 4 with 2 singles, and 2 runs scored (hitting 0.600 in the series). Mike Reissner 1 for 4 (Triple, 2 Runs scored), Sharif Upchurch 1 for 4 (Single, RBI, R, SB), David Jiminian 1 for 4 (Single, R), Jason Leyner 1 for 4 (Single), Randy Shupe 1 for 4 (Single), and Joey Capogna(RBI,Sac Bunt, BB), ...

The Sox would like to thank the Yankees for an outstanding series. The Yankees showed the heart of a champion by never giving up. Keep up the good work guys, see you next season!
