NY/NJ White Sox Win
Atlantic City Memorial Day Tournament!

The NY/NJ White Sox Win the Atlantic City Memorial Day Tournament for the 2nd Consecutive Year!!!

The Sox headed down the Parkway in search of the 2nd Consecutive Atlantic City Win, and more importantly the Grand Prize of a paid entry into the Phoenix, Arizona World Series Championship in October.  The Tournament got off to a rocky start as Game 1 Starter David Jiminian couldn't go due to an injury .  Emergency Starter Mike Toroni was Outstanding and the offense took care of the rest in a 16-0 victory over the Pleasantville Red Sox.  Toroni pitched a complete game, 5IP, allowing only 3 hits, 0 runs, walked 0, and struck out 8.  Gary Gottlob and Ray Montanez led the offence going 3 for 3 each.  The Sox also played long ball as Montanez hit a solo shot, Sharif Upchurch hit a 3 run homer, and David Jiminian hit a Grand Slam.

Game 2 saw a rematch of last years finals as the Sox took on the Legion Lumberkings.  Tobin Whitman got the call, but once again it was the Sox offense that would shine!  The Sox pounded out 19 hits including a 5 for 5 performance by Gary Gottlob, and 3 hits from Sharif Upchurch.  The Sox added 2 more home runs coming from Gary Gottlob and Butch Bellenger.  Whitman pitched a complete game, 8IP, allowing 12 hits, walked 4, and struck out 6.

In Game 3, the Sox took on Roberto Clemente, who needed a victory to get into the playoffs.  Tim Dexter got the call and was outstanding on the mound.  Dexter pitched a complete game, 8IP, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs, 2 earned runs, walked 3, and struck out 7.  The Sox offense struggled in this one producing only 3 runs as Roberto Clemente won the game 4-3.  Antaun Barnett collected 2 hits, with Williams and Toroni adding and RBI Double each.

The Semi-Finals pitted the Sox against the NYPD, New Yorks Finest.  Jake Brooks got the call and was on his game.  Brooks pitched a complete game, 9IP, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned runs, walked 2, and struck out 6.  With the game tied at 1 in the 5th inning, the Sox got some help from the NYPD.  With 2 outs, back to back errors opened the flood gates for the Sox.  Back to Back RBI hits from Upchurch and Barnett along with another error scored 4 runs, giving the Sox a 5-1 lead.  NYPD would add a 2 run home run in the 7th, but that was as far as they would get as Brooks retired the last 9 batters to face him.  The Sox advance to the Championship Game for the 2nd Consecutive Year...

The Championship Game saw the Sox take on the 2 time Champion New City Outlaws.  Anthony Simone got the call in this one and he did not disappoint.  Simone pitched a complete game, allowing only 5 hits, 1 run, no earned runs, walked none, and struck out 5.  An error leading off the game led to the Outlaws taking a 1-0 lead, but the Sox came right back with to tie the game in the bottom of the 1st.  Mike Toroni's RBI Single in the 2nd gave the Sox a 2-1 lead.  In the 5th a Fielders Choice scores Randy Shupe giving the Sox a 3-1 lead.  That was more than enough for Simone, who retired 14 of the last 16 batter he faced.  Anthony Simone was named Championship Game MVP.

The NY/NJ White Sox were crowned the 2009 Atlantic City Memorial Day Champions, and earned the right to play in the 2009 World Series Championship in Phoenix, Arizona.
